Founders of the Children’s Home

A home is more than shelter. A home is family. And, family doesn’t happen without love.

Pastor Roger Wilson Charles & his wife, Gladys Charles — known as Pas & Mamni Pas — had a dream in their hearts to open a home for children with the purpose of being a safe place where children would be provided for, raised in love, and given life. After the earthquake in January 2010, Wings of Refuge, Inc. had the honor of partnering with them as they decided to step out in faith. They rented a small home, hired a director, two caretakers, and a cook, and began.

The Children’s Home opened its doors on May 21, 2011 to seven children. Through the years, it grew into a home of refuge for 34 children and 15 staff members in Pernier, Haiti—a town located near the capital of Port-au-Prince.

In June 2020, 19 of the children at the Children’s Home were reunited with their families and in the summer of 2021, the remaining 15 children transitioned from the Children’s Home and were reunited with their families or guardians.

Most of the children are now supported through the Ansanm program, with the purpose of showing up for the children and their families, coming alongside them where they are, and standing together with them in a variety of ways.
